Hess(Rudolf) - Me-110

Panzergrenadier-Regiment 25 (Norrey-en-Bessin)

Armed with an MG42 general-purpose machine gun, the exhausted SS-Panzergrenadiers of SS-Hauptscharführer Wilhelm Boigk´s 3rd platoon grimly carry on the battle.

Boigk himself was killed in action on July 4 1944. These photographs are from a set by SS-Kriegsberichter Wilfried Woscidlo taken at Rots on June 9 1944. The SS troopers are preparing for a counterattack with the Panthers of 3.Panzerkompanie/SS-Panzer-Regiment 12 of the 12.SS-Panzer-Divison Hitlerjugend.

SS-Hauptscharführer Boigk was buried at the Soldatenfriedhöf Reyes-Bazenville.

SS-Obersturmbannführer Hans Waldmüller

SS-Obersturmbannführer Hans Waldmüller (September 13 1912 – September 8 1944), commander 1st Battalion/SS-Panzergrenadier-Regiment 25 of 12.SS-Panzer-Division Hitlerjugend. Waldmüller held the right flank position of the Hitlerjugend Division for weeks against the hardest attacks, under constant naval artillery. He was awarded the Knight’s Cross on August 27 1944 for his unit’s defensive achievements during the fierce battles around Caen in Normandy. During the German retreat through Belgium Waldmüller was lured into an ambush by communist partisans near Basse-Bodeux between Werbomont and Stavelot on September 8 1944. When Waldmüller´s mutilated body was recovered by his troops it was slashed open, the genitals were cut off and his body was dumped into a drainage pipe. He had fought bravely for five years and was known for his adventurous and daring acts. Hans Waldmüller – along with SS-Untersturmführer Karl Marquardt who was murdered by headshot in the same incident – rests at the German military cemetery at Düren-Rölsdorf near Aachen in Germany. Units: SS-Panzergrenadier-Division Leibstandarte SS and 12.SS-Panzer-Division Hitlerjugend. Awards among others: Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross, German Cross in Gold and Wound Badge in Silver.
